Leslie's Sunflower painting Inspires a Quilt!
One of Leslie's Sunflower paintings inspired her Canadian friend (from Kennedy High School days!), Maria Hrabovsky, to make a quilt of the same scene! The painting and the finished quilt appear in The Cotton Spice issue for September available online now at http://www.cottonspice.com/.

"Maria presented me with the quilt on a visit back home and it is a cherished item in my home!" Maria is a very talented quilter whose Anne of Green Gables quilt has recently won a third place in the juried show, "Kindred Spaces" in Charlottetown, PEI, Canada.

Leslie Allen Invited to Join IPAP World Tour!
Blooming Tree/AdobeThe world tour Far and Near Horizons is an international art exhibit organized by two of the world’s foremost contemporary Landscape Painting groups – Landscape Artists International (LAI) and International Plein Air Painters (IPAP).
Take a virtual tour.

“The mission of the tour is to act as a bridge between countries of the world to foster environmental awareness,” says Far and Near founder Linda Richichi. “The art on the canvas becomes a universal language and acts as an ambassador between different cultures. Art is a bridge, bringing us together.”

“As artists,” states Michael Chesley Johnson, Director, “there’s a reason why we paint the landscape and not the figure, still life or some other subject. The landscape feeds our creative fire. Thankful for its inspiration, we are eager to see that it gets taken care of. And the best way to see that it gets taken care of is to put it on display for the entire world to see. Our hope is that our paintings will encourage others to become stewards of the land – just as we have become its promoters.”

The Far and Near Horizons World Tour launched its tour in June 2007 at the Karpeles Museum in Newburg, NY, and St. Augustine Gallery in St. Augustine, FL, and plans several stops in the 2008-2009 seasons. Cities currently scheduled are: Door County, WI (April-May), Estes Park, CO (June-July), Qualicum Beach, Vancouver, BC, Canada (July-August) and Terrace Gallery, Orlando, FL (Sept 2008-January 2009).

The Estes Park exhibition will open with a Reception on Sunday June 1 from 1:00 to 4:00 PM. The public is invited to attend. Show hours are 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM daily. Group tours should be arranged in advance. For more information contact Lynda S. Vogel at 970-586-9203 or e-mail cacep@earthlink.net.

An Abstract Legacy
After two decades instructing at the Art Students League of Denver, iconic abstractionist Dale Chisman is leaving his teaching years behind with a one-week farewell exhibit of works from 35 current and past students. The paintings embody Chisman's uncanny ability to develop his students' individual flair without injecting his own style. Chisman, a painter revered for his brilliant and distinctive interpretations, is also gifted in cultivating the talent of his protégés; many have gone on to become highly regarded artists, such as Catherine Dixon, Leslie Allen, and Susan Taylor.
